Visual Art > Rebirth-Drawings

This work was made in the years 1995 through 1997 at my studio on Carroll Street in Chicago. Based on the idea of spiritual transcendence, it was also inspired by the burial ritual of the Paracas culture of Peru. The Paracas buried their dead in fetal positions, a pose that implies a human fetus, and then wrapped the body in much cloth.. The end result of thewrapping also evokes a seed, which is planted and that will resurge and grow in the afterlife.
