Visual Art > Rebirth

This work was made in the years 1995 through 1997 at my studio on carroll Street in Chicago. The paintings are all large format and oil on canvas. Based on the idea of spiritual transcendence, it was also inspired by the burial ritual of the Paracas culture of Lima Peru. The Paracas buried their dead in fetal positions, a pose that implies a human fetus, and then wrapped in much cloth.. The end result of the burial evokes also a seed, that is planted and that will resurge in the afterlife.
